Laos

Laos is a not-as-small-as-you-think-it-is country, wedged between Thailand and Vietnam. For the most part, tourism only reaches the north, with the backpacker route dipping between Vientianne, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang. We did the overland bus journey from Hanoi to Luang Prabang. It took 27hours and some intense mental strength, that left us festering and disorientated.
People in Laos tend to be open and friendly, giving lots of time for us and other smelly travellers alike. In case you were wondering, food in Laos resembles Thai food and almost all dishes use sticky rice, the currency is kip, which doesn’t have coins, and the main religion is Buddhism. A sad fact about the mysterious nation, is that it’s the most bombed place in the world. It’s littered with unexploded ordinance and a history of bloodshed.
Anyway, I’m not a guidebook and our trip was only a short ten days. In that time we did some rice farming, got drunk in a tube and met sun bears.
